Life can be stressful. A dental emergency is one of the last things you want to deal with. Thankfully, we’re here with emergency dentistry services at Leesburg Family Dental. How do you know what qualifies as an “emergency?”
Types of Dental Emergencies
There are certain issues that almost always need fast treatment. Persistent, throbbing toothaches are a sure sign that something is wrong. The pain could be caused by an abscess–a tooth infection–that can spread and cause serious health problems. Sudden pain and swelling in your jaw are other symptoms of a serious problem. If you break or chip your tooth, crown, bridge, or dentures, we’ll most likely have you come in as soon as possible, as well. If you’re ever unsure about your situation, give us a call. We’ll let you know if what you’re experiencing is an emergency.
What if I Knock My Tooth Out?
One of the scariest dental emergencies is the sudden loss of a tooth. You might be tempted to go to the emergency room, but you should contact us! It depends on the situation, but our dentists will do all they can to put your tooth back in. If your tooth is knocked out, hold it by the crown and rinse it off. If possible, put the tooth back in the socket and bite down on a piece of gauze to hold it in place. Your other option (if you can’t put it back in your mouth) is to put the tooth in a cup of milk and bring it to our Leesburg office.
